TildetPRPLI closed out the month of October with an educational and inspiring webinar by Tildet Varon who is a Certified Stress Mastery Educator and a Diplomate of the American Institute of Stress (AIS).

With public relations as one of the top 10 most stressful jobs, Tildet spoke to how we should learn how to respond to stress vs. react to it and how we shouldn’t consider it “stress management” but instead we should refer to it as “stress mastery.”  Keeping in mind that we should all be “impeccable” with our words – the less threating we make something, the less stress we will have.

She shared her five steps to stress mastery:

  1. Assess your stress
  2. Identify stress warning signs, stressors and stress effects
  3. Learn from your stress
  4. Create positive change
  5. Commit to master your stress

As PR industry pros, we have all experienced tight deadlines, client demands, the highly competitive environment and the influence of media. Add in your personal life, relationships, health, finances, etc… it’s no wonder the World Health Organization and the American Institute of Stress have found that 75-90 percent of all visits to primary care physicians are for stress related problems.

So – with all that in mind, what are the tools to master our stress?

Tildet shared five essentials:

  1. Eat well and hydrate
  2. Sleep well
  3. Move your body
  4. Recharge with self-care (more on that below)
  5. Connect socially

Throughout the last 20+ months, “self-care” has been a catch-phrase thrown around as a way to help people deal with the craziness of living during a pandemic. What exactly is self-care? Tildet breaks it down as something that is a deliberate effort, a choice – one that is not selfish, a ritual that you integrate into your life, a lifestyle and overall: making yourself a priority.
Lastly, Tildet closed the webinar with how to transform stress in 60 seconds or less with her S.A.F.E method:

  • S = stop/scan
  • A = allow/accept
  • F = feel/filter
  • S = engage/empower
