A Memorable Milestone
On May 15, 2024, I was deeply honored to receive the Public Relations Professionals of Long Island (PRPLI) Lifetime Achievement Award at the Westbury Manor. It was a remarkable day, filled with reflection, celebration, and overwhelming gratitude. Surrounded by cherished friends, colleagues, and my son, it was a moment that exemplified the power of connection and community in both life and career.
A Heartwarming Surprise
My business partner, Lisa Gordon, was initially set to present the award. Unfortunately, she couldn’t attend the event as planned due to illness. With little hesitation, I turned to my son, Derek, and asked him to step into her place. What followed was one of the afternoon’s most touching and unforgettable moments. Derek delivered a deeply emotional introduction, speaking from his heart with genuine warmth and pride. His powerful words left me speechless for a moment – an unusual occurrence for someone in public relations! That moment will forever stand out as one of the most meaningful of my career.
A Celebration of Connections
The luncheon itself was a beautifully organized gathering filled with familiar faces. What made it so special was the variety of people who came to share this milestone with me. Former employees, past clients, and even my running group were all in attendance, each representing a different chapter of my personal and professional life. Their presence underscored the importance of the relationships I’ve been privileged to build over the years.
Two touching tributes added to the day’s significance. My running group and Ellen Williams of The Salient Strategist, Inc. ran separate celebratory ads in the event program to mark the occasion. These thoughtful gestures were more than acts of recognition; they were affirmations of the shared values and mutual support that shape a fulfilling career in public relations.

To say this award means a lot to me would be an understatement. Receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award isn’t just about personal accomplishment. It represents years of hard work, dedication to my community and clients, and the collective contributions of many who have supported and inspired me.
Seeing the room filled with people who’ve contributed to my professional and personal life made the day unforgettable. Each conversation, hug, and smile reinforced the idea that true success is about the lasting connections we create and the positive impact we leave behind.
